The Must-See Shows of Fringe World 2019

By 02-04-19 October 14th, 2019 No Comments

With 700 odd shows on offer across more than 100 venues, of which many are located just a stone’s throw from Forrest Chase, choosing which Fringe World performances to attend is an overwhelming task.

Not sure where to start? We’ve tracked down the productions shaping up to be the hottest tickets in town.

Blanc de Blanc

From the masterminds behind Limbo, Le Gâteau Chocolat and Madonna’s Rebel Heart tour comes Blanc de Blanc, a heady blend of cabaret, dance, burlesque, acrobatics and everything in between.

Back due to popular demand after a triumphant Fringe World debut in 2016, Blanc de Blanc promises glitz and glamour in spades. So don’t be afraid to wear your favourite slinky cocktail dress paired with something suitably sparkly from Swarovski. A spritz of Mecca’s Carnal Flower EDP by Editions de Parfums By Frédéric Malle certainly wouldn’t go astray either.

Led by Monsieur Romeo, a seductive master of movement who has shared the stage with the likes of Beyonce, Kylie Minogue and Lady Gaga (to name a few), the all-star Blanc de Blanc cast invites audiences to leave their worries at the door as they enter a Parisian-style cabaret, conveniently located on William Street in Northbridge.

With occasional coarse language, sexual references and frequent nudity, this show is strictly for an 18+ audience. Book your tickets here.

Dali Land

Given his penchant for all things weird and wonderful, it’s safe to assume Salvador Dali would have felt right at home at Fringe World. It’s fitting then that 30 years after his death Fringe will pay homage to the surrealist master with an immersive exhibition that doubles as a performance space.

A tribute of epic proportions, Dali Land will take over the previously vacant Metro City building, transforming the Roe Street space into a four storey shrine for the worship of surrealist art, film, virtual reality and live music, with more than 200 of Dali’s works on display.

Opening with The Surrealist Ball on January 18 – an avant garde cocktail event the likes of which Perth has never seen before – and running until February 17, the intoxicating fun of Dali Land won’t stop when the sun goes down.

While the exhibition is open from 11am til 6pm daily, Briefs Factory will keep the fun going with Dali After Dark: a freeform theatrical experience that interacts with the exhibition, and Club Briefs: a show touted as a “debaucherous disco after party” featuring the world’s best circus artists.

The depravity will continue into the wee hours up on the rooftop at the Surrealist Salon, with a symphony of sights and sounds every night from 10pm til 5am.

Calm your senses and soothe your soul after a big night at Dali Land by lighting up Fornasetti’s Dali inspired Le Femme Aux Moustaches candle, available now at Mecca.

Famous Sharron

A Perthonality whose charisma is trumped only by her flamboyant fashion sense, Fringe World simply wouldn’t feel complete without an appearance or two by the one and only Famous Sharron. Hot on the diamante encrusted heels of four back-to-back Fringe World seasons, the selfie queen returns to the spotlight in 2019 with her critically acclaimed show Love Match.

A self proclaimed relationships expert, albeit one who has been married three times, Shaz will be joined on stage by an array of celebrity ‘ball handlers’ as she helps the unlucky in love search for their ultimate doubles partner.

Previous incarnations of Love Match have featured appearances by the stars of The Bachelor, Married at First Sight and the Real Housewives of Sydney, so although it’s anyone’s guess as to which celebs will join Shaz this time round, we’re sure they’re bound to be entertaining!

While we don’t suggest adopting the fiery redhead’s more is more (is more!) approach to cosmetics, you certainly wouldn’t look out of place at a her show wearing a high impact pink lipstick from Mecca.

Catch Famous Sharron’s Love Match on January 19 plus February 9, 14 and 16. Tickets on sale now.

Bogan Shakespeare presents Romeo & Juliet

There are few things in this world more Australian than an Akubra from R.M. Williams. But a bogan take on the Bard’s classic works would have to come close.

Offering a dinky-di rendition of a literary classic, Bogan Shakespeare presents: Romeo & Juliet certainly isn’t a faithful retelling of the timeless love story.

Swap fair Verona for Ellenbrook, and the deep seated hatred between the Montague and Capulet families for the fierce rivalry that burns between Eagles and Dockers fans, and you have the makings of a hilarious and absurd take on one of the most famous love stories of all time.

Bogan Shakespeare presents: Romeo & Juliet runs from January 30 until February 3 at The Lounge at The Globe (how fitting!). Click here for more.
